I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay and became involved with scuba diving very briefly in the late 60's. In early 2003, my youngest son Matt, who was 9 at the time, participated in resort scuba pool session while we were on vacation. After that, he was hooked on the sport. So in 2004, he and I completed our Open Water Diver certification. The next year we obtained our Advanced Open Water certification. Both from a desire to advance my own diving skills and to be prepared to handle any emergency that might impact Matt during a diving trip, I enrolled in and completed the Rescue diver course later that summer. At this point, I decided to become involved with professional diving activities. I obtained my Dive Master certification late in 2006. I then completed my Master Diver certification early in 2007 with specialties in Deep, Wreck, Night, Nitrox, Equipment, Peak Buoyancy, Drift and Boat diver. I have found that scuba diving is a sport for all ages and it is never too late to start to dive. It is also a great way to have quality time with your kids. Since Matt received his certification, his older brothers have become involved with the sport, Eric (26) is now a certified Rescue Diver and Brian (25) just received his Open Water Diver certification. I have traveled to several locations to dive including Puerto Vallarta, British Columbia, Cancun, Rivera Maya, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Costa Rica, Chesapeake Bay, Bahamas, Bonaire and Lake Michigan. My plan is to continue my scuba diver training and obtain my Instructor certification by the end of 2007. After that, who knows what the future may bring.
